Living the Bhagavad Gītā

Timeless Wisdom for Everyday Life with Swami Prem Sadasivananda

Friday, October 2 – Sunday, October 4, 2026
The Breathing Space, Amsterdam

The Bhagavad Gītā is one of the world's greatest spiritual classics — a timeless dialogue that speaks to every human heart.

Far more than a philosophical text, the Gītā is a practical guide to living with clarity, purpose, and inner peace. Its teachings illuminate every aspect of life, helping us face challenges with courage and transform our actions into spiritual practice.

Over one weekend, Swami Prem Sadasivananda will guide us through its central teachings — on attachment, right action, the nature of the Self, and the path of devotion — through talks, meditation, and kirtan. Whether you come for a single evening or the full weekend, this is a rare chance to sit with a living teacher whose work is grounded in scholarship, humor, and genuine warmth.

Schedule

Friday, October 2

18:30–20:00 — Satsang (Meditation, Kirtan & Talk) Reclaiming Our Happiness

From a young age, we are conditioned to believe that happiness lies in possessions, success, appearance, relationships, status, and achievement. Many of us still struggle to understand where true happiness comes from. Only a rare few seem to have touched it — those in whom happiness has become a steady and natural state of being. Join us for an inspiring and enjoyable talk exploring the true source of happiness — and how it can be lived, not merely pursued.

Saturday, October 3

8:00–9:30 — Morning Sādhana

Meditation · Chanting · Talk: What is Meditation

13:00–14:15 — The Battlefield Within

Understanding the Setting and Purpose of the Bhagavad Gītā

More than a warrior's crisis, Arjuna's despair reflects the universal condition of the human soul when it becomes overwhelmed by attachment, emotional conflict, and the loss of inner clarity. His struggle is our own, and it marks the beginning of the spiritual journey.

15:00–16:15 — The Self and the Art of Right Action

The Foundation of Karma Yoga

Krishna's first response to Arjuna is not to tell him what to do, but to remind him who he truly is. Only when we understand the nature of the Self can we understand the art of right action.

16:30–18:00 — Satsang (Meditation, Kirtan & Talk) You Are the Architect of Your Destiny

The Creative Power of Thought

Within each of us lies a quiet but profound truth — our thoughts shape our reality. From the subtlest idea to the most persistent belief, our mental world lays the blueprint for our external life. Far from being passive observers of life, we are the architects — designing, constructing, and evolving our destiny with every idea we cherish and every belief we hold.

Sunday, October 4

8:00–9:30 — Morning Sādhana

Meditation · Chanting · Talk: Keeping a Spiritual Diary

13:00–14:15 — The Perils of Attachment

Our suffering does not arise from the things we own, the work we do, or the people in our lives, but from our attachment to them. Attachment limits our capacity to love and becomes the root of inner conflict. Non-attachment, on the other hand, leads to mental and emotional freedom.

15:00–16:15 — The Alchemy of the Heart

The Yoga of Devotion

Bhakti Yoga teaches us that our emotions are not obstacles to spiritual life but energies that can be refined, purified, and redirected toward the Divine. As the heart opens through devotion, surrender, and selfless love, we gradually learn to recognize the Divine presence within ourselves, in others, and throughout all of life.

16:30–18:00 — Satsang (Meditation, Kirtan & Talk) Healing the Restless Mind

The Yogic Art of Practice and Letting Go

Every mind longs for peace, yet is often carried away by constant movement and endless desires. Patañjali offers two timeless remedies — steady practice and wise non-attachment — which gently restore the mind to its natural state of stillness and freedom.
