Our Teachers
Our teaching team shares a commitment to breath-centered yoga rooted in presence, adaptability, and community. Whether guiding Mysore, restorative, or vinyasa classes, our teachers are dedicated to supporting your practice with clarity and care.
Teaching Philosophy
At The Breathing Space in Amsterdam, our community of teachers brings together deep experience, personal practice, and shared purpose. This studio is dedicated to our teachers—past, present, and within—whose wisdom continues to inspire our work.
We believe in yoga as a path of self-discovery, healing, and empowerment. The teacher–student relationship is central to this journey, and we hold it with great care and respect. Our team supports every practitioner—whether beginner or lifelong student—in developing a sustainable, breath-centered practice.
Most of our teachers have trained through our in-house Teacher Training or are long-time students at the shala. Together, we aim to nurture the growth of each practitioner through ongoing practice, mentorship, workshops, and retreat opportunities, grounded in tradition and guided by presence.
Lana Beex (Studio Owner, Lead Teacher)
Lana is a founder of The Breathing Space and the lead teacher of its in-house yoga teacher training. She serves as head of the Mysore program, guiding daily morning Mysore sessions as well as vinyasa and led Ashtanga classes.
With a background in dance, biomedical science, neurophysiology, and osteopathy, she brings both scientific understanding and embodied experience to her teaching. A dedicated yoga practitioner since 1998 and teacher since 2006, Lana offers a depth of knowledge grounded in decades of study and personal practice.
Rooted in the clarity and tradition of Ashtanga yoga, her teaching has evolved into a breath-centered, adaptive approach shaped by the realities of a changing body. Living with muscular dystrophy, Lana understands how to adapt yoga for injury, illness, and limitation. Her classes invite students to explore yoga as a personal, sustainable, and lifelong path.
She is deeply grateful for her time spent as a student of Gretchen Suarez. In recent years, she continues to learn from Dena Kingsberg and Jack Wiseman, and she regularly travels to study with Mary Taylor and Richard Freeman. Each of these teachers has informed her practice and teaching in unique ways. Above all, Lana considers her students—and her daily relationship to practice—her greatest teachers.
