Introduction to Mysore

Walking into a mysore room can be intimidating, this course will help make the transition easier.

  • learn in a small group

  • become more consistent & committed

  • learn the traditional method of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga

  • develop skills of concentration, breath, and body awareness

  • be prepared to join a regular mysore program

  • build a foundation for practicing on your own

The course is designed for the absolute beginner, yogis transitioning from other styles and led classes, and more experienced practitioners looking to rebuild their practice after time away or recovery from an injury. Instruction will be given during the already on-going mysore program.

This is a month long journey of 3 days a week and works best if able to commit to the full schedule. Through this course you will learn the fundamental sequence and will develop the skills of concentration, breath and body awareness. After this course you will be ready to join our regular mysore program.

Week 1: Introduction to the method of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga (tristana), Surya Namaskar blueprint for practice & learn the opening and closing chants

Week 2: Building the fundamentals (standing postures) & Introduction to seated meditation

Week 3: Building the fundamentals (standing & balancing postures) & Refining Surya Namaskar

Week 4: Introduction to closing sequence & Bandha awareness

This is a general guideline of the course but may vary depending on the group of students needs and abilities.
